| 1. Resolved that this 125th Convention of the Diocese of Newark welcomes The Rt. Rev. John P. Croneberger
as our Bishop Coadjutor and also welcomes his wife, Marilyn Croneberger. We look forward to his episcopacy and
their ministry among us. 2. Resolved that this 125th Convention of the Diocese of Newark expresses its deep appreciation for the past and continued ministry of Jack M. McKelvey, Bishop Suffragan and his wife Linda McKelvey. And be it further resolved that this Convention supports Bishop McKelvey's work in the areas of Camp and Youth Ministry, Congregational Development, and especially his courage for opposition to the Death Penalty. And be it further resolved that this Convention reaffirms its opposition to the Death Penalty. This would affirm the stance taken by all major Christian denominations, as well as the Jewish Community. 3. Whereas we recognize the language of resolutions often fall short of the emotion, experience and feeling we have for our bishop, we acknowledge the depths of spiritual growth with which The Rt. Rev. John Shelby Spong has led this diocese. Resolved that this 125th Convention of the Diocese of Newark thanks The Rt. Rev. John Shelby Spong and his wife, Christine Spong for the years of their ministry to the people of this diocese. And be it known that The Rt. Rev. John Shelby Spong's episcopacy spanned one-fifth of the history of our diocese. This episcopacy was marked by major accomplishments in many areas, including: Stewardship, Congregational Development, Clergy Development, Women's Issues, Racial Issues, Human Sexuality Issues, Encouragement of Lay Ministry, Christian Education, and Influence on Major Issues Within the National and International Church. Bishop Spong and Christine, you have moved us, changed us and lifted us to greater heights. We thank you and may God bless you both! |
