The meeting opened at 7:30 pm with Evening Prayer.

 

BUSINESS MEETING

 

The following new representatives were introduced:

The agenda was presented and approved.

 

A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the May 21, 2008 meeting.  The minutes were approved.

 

John Murphy reported that the District 10 Admin. Fund had a balance of $498.66. 

 

 

PROGRAM:  Mission and Ministry of District 10 with St. Paul’s, Paterson

 

John Hartnett reported that the Mission and Ministry Evening at St. Paul’s on June 14, 2008 was a great success.  David Wolf estimated that about 125 attended.

 

David Wolf reported on the Celebration of New Ministries event planned for Saturday, Nov. 1, 4:00 pm at St. Paul’s.

 

The District will celebrate The Feast of the Epiphany on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s.

 

The District Confirmation is scheduled for Pentecost, Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 4:00 pm at St. Paul’s.

 

The District Confirmation Retreat is scheduled for Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 (Palm Sunday weekend) at St. Paul’s.

 

 

 

John Hartnett called for nominations.  The following nominations were received:

 

  • Youth Delegate to Convention:  Cedric Brown, St. Paul’s
  • Nominations Committee:  George Mackey, St. Elizabeth’s
  • Diocesan Council:  Clergy—The Rev. David Wolf

 

Elections will take place at our next meeting.

 

George Mackey reported on the following positions that were open for nominations at Convention:

 

  • ACTS/VIM
  • Constitutions & Canons
  • Diocesan Review Committee
  • Ecclesiastical Court
  • General Convention Fourth Lay Alternate
  • Standing Committee
  • Trinity & St. Philip’s Cathedral Chapter

 

 

 

The Rev. Stuart Smith reported on the Diocesan Council.  The work of the working groups in the Council is still evolving. He announced a model policy on “Making Church a Safe Place for All God’s Children” is posted on the Diocese website and also available on DVD.  The Diocese is experiencing a shortfall in pledge revenue.  The Treasurer will be distributing new financial reports.  TIAA/CREF has been selected as portfolio manager for the Diocesan Investment Trust.

 

There was a discussion about the role of the Diocese for each church and the importance of supporting the work of the Diocese and the National Church.  

 

 

Announcements:

 

Rev. John Hartnett reported that there would be an Ad-Ministration Day on Saturday, Oct. 18, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at St. Philip’s Academy, 342 Central Avenue, Newark.  There will be workshops for Wardens, Treasurers, Property Managers and other Lay Leaders.

 

Rev. Lizabeth Smith reported on preparations for the CDC Auction Dinner on Nov. 13, 6:30 pm.  A mailing has been sent out.

 

Rev. Stuart Smith reported that St. Clement’s would be sponsoring a Crop Walk on Oct. 19, 4:00 pm.  A group from the church will be visiting New Orleans to help with a Habitat for Humanity project.

 

Rev. David Cabush reported that St. John’s would have a Holiday Fair on Nov. 14 and 15.

 

Kevin Jones reported that Christ Church would have a Rainbow Pumpkin Dance on Oct. 25.

 

 

David Cabush gave the closing prayer. 

 

The meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.
