District 10 Minutes for September 29, 2009 Meeting

Here are the minutes of our September 29, 2009 meeting held at St. Alban’s Church, Oakland/Franklin Lakes.

The meeting opened at 7:30 pm with Evening Prayer.

 

BUSINESS MEETING

 

The agenda was presented and approved.

 

A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the May 7, 2009 meeting.  One correction was submitted.  The minutes were approved as corrected.

 

John Murphy reported that the District 10 Admin. Fund had a balance of $628.00. He also described the importance of signing-in at District meetings and keeping him informed when a church changes its District 10 representatives. 

 

 

PROGRAM:  Mission and Ministry of District 10

 

Richard Williams reported that the St. Paul’s CDC Auction would be held on Nov. 12, 6:30 pm.

 

Stuart Smith reported that the Allendale/Midland Park unification has been approved; the new name will be Trinity Episcopal.

 

John Hartnett reported that the District Evensong would be on Nov. 8, 4:00 pm.  It will still be at St. Elizabeth’s unless a larger space can be found.

 

David Wolf reported that the District 10 Confirmation would take place on April 18, 2010 at St. Paul’s at 4:00 pm. 

 

David Wolf also reported that the Festival of Three Kings would take place on Jan. 3, 2010, 11:00 am at St. Paul’s.

 

Youth/children ministry

 

There was discussion of the formation of a Sunday School “task force” (3-5 people) to provide a resource for congregations looking to establish or strengthen a Sunday School program to attract and keep young families.  The task force would report monthly to the District.

 

It was suggested that the task force be expanded to include Christian Education and that representatives with youth/children ministry experience from each church be invited to participate.

 

Shared mission trips

 

·        St. Paul’s is planning a trip to New Orleans in August

·        St. Elizabeth’s and others are planning a trip to Camp Mechuwana in Maine on 6/27 thru 7/3/10

·        Some churches may have an Acolyte trip to National Cathedral

·        St. Clement’s is planning a Habitat for Humanity trip to Mississippi, 4/25 thru 5/1/10.

 

ELECTIONS:

 

·        Lay delegate to Diocesan Council---No candidates

·        Youth delegate to Convention---No candidates

·        Secretary/Treasurer---John Murphy was nominated and elected.

·        George Mackey described the positions open for elections at Convention.

Celebration of a New Ministry:  Saturday, Oct. 31, 10:00 am, at St. John’s, Ramsey

 

Celebration of a New Ministry (Trinity Episcopal Church):  Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, 3:00 pm, at Allendale

 

St. Alban’s 50th Anniversary Celebration at St. Alban’s, Sunday, Nov. 15, 2:00 pm.

 

Companion Ministry Event, Dinner and Evensong, Saturday, July 17 at Trinity.

 

Trinity Institute Program, Jan. 27 thru 29, 2010, at Christ Church, Ridgewood

 

Emily Rennie reported that the Senior Ministries would have its David Hegg Awards Evensong and Reception on Sunday, June 13, 2010, 3:00 pm at St. Peter’s, Morristown.
