District 10 Minutes for February 12, 2007 Meeting

Here are the minutes of our February 12, 2007 meeting held at St. Alban’s Church, Oakland/Franklin Lakes.

The meeting opened at 7:30 pm with prayer offered by The Rev. Prince Singh
Charles Arlin introduced new clergy and lay representatives: The Rev. Dr. David Cabush, Alfred Schmalfus, Salim Dallal, Harry Denaker and Patsy Brooks.
The agenda was presented and approved.
The approval of the minutes of the November 6, 2006 meeting was moved and seconded. The motion was approved.
John Murphy reported that the District 10 Admin. Fund had a balance of $460.21. Since we have begun a new year, donations to the Admin. Fund is encouraged. We have received donations from two churches.
John Murphy also explained the process for distributing Agendas, Minutes and Rosters using the District News page on the Diocese website. Distribution by mail will be used for those representatives without Internet access. He also asked churches to send him district representative changes that are made at Annual Meetings.
Stuart Smith reported that our Diocesan Council will meet the following Wednesday. Charles Arlin stated that he will be try to setup a meeting with the Diocesan Council Steering Committee to discuss our St. Mary’s Mission Proposal. Charles Arlin gave an overview of our Proposal to the new representatives.
Prince Singh had no report on the Chaplaincy Program at Ramapo College. Charles Arlin will contact William Paterson to discuss the establishment of a Chaplaincy Program there.
Janice Hardy read Emily Rennie’s report on the Senior Ministries Committee. The Celebrating Creative Congregations workshop will be held on March 10, 2007 at St. Andrew & Holy Communion, South Orange. Senior Ministries will have a presentation by Richard Brady, on Wills & Advance Directives and Power of Attorneys. The Senior Ministries Evensong and David Hegg Awards will be held on June 17, at Calvary Church, Summit; Reception at 3:00 pm and Service at 4:00 pm. June 17 is Father’s Day; the day was chosen so Bishop Beckwith could be present. Churches will be asked for nominations of seniors over 60 years who have been very supportive of church activities.
Announcements:
Charles Arlin announced that the next District Meeting has been changed to Monday, April 23, 7:30 pm at St. Paul’s, Paterson.
Stuart Smith invited us to the St. Clement’s Lenten Program. He also asked our prayers for Betty Kregg who has lung cancer.
Don Cairns reported that the Diocesan Youth Ministry is selling travel mugs for $10 and a new Crossroads brochure is being distributed.
David Wolf announced that St. Paul’s is having a Lenten Workshop Series on Sundays at 12:00 noon from Feb. 25 thru Mar. 25. The subject is “Leveling the Playing Field: How do we DO economic Justice?”
David Wolf also announced that St. Paul’s would be hosting their J2A Dinner & Fashion Show on Saturday, March 24, 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Proceeds will support the J2A Pilgrimage to California is Aug. 2007. He also distributed copies of the St. Paul’s CDC newsletter and annual report.
Marge Christie announced that Bishop Beckwith would be touring Crossroads and dedicating the Bishop John Croneberger softball field.
Program: Thoughts on Transition and the Consecration
Comments were made that the transition and consecration were well planned, impressive and went very smoothly.
Program: Hopes and dreams for our district and the diocese
Charles Arlin opened the discussion.
The following suggestions were made:
· We should be sharing our Ministry information
· We should be sharing our Youth Ministry information
· We should be sharing information on our programs
· We should be sharing information on our Outreach Ministries
· We should be sharing our deacons within our District and information on how they are used
· We should be sharing pulpits
· We should have a District retreat
· We should be sharing information Christian Formation and Youth Ministries
· We should have District presentations by ACTS/VIM and WJ Herbert Fund
· We should have a list of District members who are on ACTS/VIM, WJ Herbert, etc.
· We should share Church newsletters, annual reports, etc.
· We should encourage attendance by missing congregations
· We should invite Diocesan Committee members to District meetings
· We should have a Progressive dinner
It was suggested that at the next District Meeting each church should give a less-than-4 minute presentation on their ministries.
The Rev. John Hartnett gave the closing prayer.
The meeting adjourned at 9:05 pm.
