Ken Boccino

Randy Johnson

Kenneth (Ken) Boccino is scheduled to be ordained to the Vocational Diaconate at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May, 16, 2015 at St. Peter’s Church in Morristown. All are welcome to attend.

Born and raised in Bergen County, Ken remembers growing up having most of his family no more than a 30-minute car ride away. This included grandparents, aunts, uncles and even his great grandparents. He remembers family being an important part of his childhood, especially on the weekends and holidays.

Raised Roman Catholic, Ken remembers being drawn to church and attending his home parish of Our Lady of Mercy in Park Ridge, and often attended services with a childhood friend at the Pascack Reformed Church across the street as well as the Everyman’s Bible Class in Rutherford, where his grandfather worshiped. His first introduction to the Episcopal Church was at an Easter Service in Toledo, Ohio, spending a weekend with a college friend and his family. Ken remembers it being very friendly and social. He was received into the Episcopal Church in 1990.

A member of St. Peter’s in Morristown for over 20 years, Ken has served as warden, vestry member, lay Eucharistic minister, chancel administrator and a member of the altar guild. As his sponsoring parish, they have been very supportive during his discernment process.

Mentored by the Rev. Bernie Poppe, Ken completed his parish internship at St. George’s in Maplewood. He participates in the Healing Ministry, lay-led Bible Study group, plays saxophone at the monthly family worship and serves as a volunteer Chaplain at University Hospital in Newark.

Ken lives in Maplewood with his wife Nerissa and children, Joshua and Alaina and is employed by Novartis in East Hanover.

He says he is "feeling blessed and excited for this joyful event and thankful to be able to share it with my and all those who have walked with me on this journey."
