Ultreyas

Diocese of Newark Ultreya Script

(Begin at 7:30 PM. The Ultreya should be approximately 1 ½ hours long. Start with two or three songs to gibe people more time to arrive. After the songs are done, have people remain standing for the gathering prayer.)

Gathering Prayer: Gracious God, we thank you for this loving community centered and led by the Christ in our midst. We treasure your presence among those gathered here and those who are with us in Spirit as we strive, in community, to live a life of grace and continuing transformation and as we try, with prayer and your help, to live and act according to your will. In Jesus' name, we ask only to live and work to your glory and for your purposes. Amen

(Invite everyone to sit down)

Good evening and welcome to tonight's Ultreya. You may remember that the word ULTREYA is used to mean "Onward," "Upward" and "Forward." It translates, loosely, to "Persevere". The intent of Ultreya is to root the results of the 3-Day weekend in the soil of perseverance.

The Spiritual Director tonight is _______________________________. He/She will be available during the floating Group Reunion to discuss, with anyone who is interested, how and why to seek Spiritual Direction.

Count off for Group Reunion. (Give people direction as to where they can meet. Give them 25 minutes. At the 20 minute mark, leave your group and give each group the 5 minute warning.)

(As people return to the larger group, have the musicians play one or two songs. After that, invite everyone to sit and ask for announcements. When the announcements are finished, remember to thank the musicians who are with you tonight.)

Next, we will have a witness talk from a member of our community. The purpose of the talk is to share and encourage one another in our Christian Life and Witness. After a period of meditation on what we have just heard, we will have a response from the Spiritual Director. After some meditation on the Spiritual Director's response, we are all welcome to affirm the speaker's witness or to thank him/her for sharing. We will now stand and sing the talk song ____________________________.

(While people are singing, take the witness speaker, spiritual director and 3 or 4 others to pray.)

The witness speaker for tonight is

A reading from Hebrews:

Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the day of the Lord is coming nearer.

(After the witness talk, keep a silence of about one minute. Then give a nod to the spiritual director to begin. After that, keep silence for another minute before letting the community speak - you may want to begin. When everyone is finished, invite all to stand in a prayer circle. Let spontaneous prayers begin. When you think that enough time has passed, end with these words...)

We ask all of these things, spoken and silent, in faith, in Jesus name. Amen. Please join me in the Lord's Prayer...

Go in Peace to love and serve the Lord. Ultreya! Ultreya! Ultreya!
