Newark 24 Team News

Cathie Studwell
Team Co-ordinator

Greetings from the team of NewArk #24. Things are getting down to the wire and with only three weeks to go until the weekend, now is the time to get your weekend applications in to our registrar, Judy Royce. So far, we have six weekenders and the application deadline is April 14th for anyone that you might be praying about sponsoring. Please remember that if anyone needs a scholarship, please contact Fr. John Rollins at (973)-835-2207.

You will be receiving in the mail a post card that gives you the dates and places for the Community (piety) Eucharist, the closing and the Instructional Ultreya. Please support our new weekenders by attending as many of these events as you can. In the days to come you will also receive in the mail, a list of the team and weekenders for palanca. When you come to the facility you can give your palanca to Jim Cullin, or Margaret Giammarino and they will make sure that it gets to the weekenders.

If you would like to donate any food palanca, please contact Sue Calcagno (973)962-4246. If you would like to be part of the weekend prayer chain, please contact Kurt Gruenberg (973)361-4163. I am still looking for people to be on the clean up crew (casa-support) after the weekend. If you can help out, please contact me at (973)772-6042.

We are having our final team meeting on April 4th at St. Mary's in Sparta. The team has prayed for God's vision for this weekend and has responded to the call. They have worked very hard and have made a commitment to the new weekenders to help them continue their journey in the fourth day. I thank you all very much for sharing all your gifts. I ask you, the rest of the community to join us in welcoming and supporting the new weekenders on their new journey.

See you at the closing! De Colores!

NewArk # 24 Prayer Vigil

Your active prayer support is needed Thursday, April 23, 1998 beginning at 6:00 PM through Sunday, April 26, 1998 at 4:00 PM.

It is the custom of the NewArk Cursillo Community to have at least one member of the community actively at prayer during each and every hour of the weekend. Here is an opportunity for you to participate in the weekend by holding up every one on the weekend, both team and candidates, in prayer.

To participate in prayer support, all you have to do is call Anne Meier at 973-427-7050 or Kurt Gruenberg at 973-361-4163 to sign up for an hour of prayer. You are encouraged to pick an hour on each of the three days

Prayer Vigil During Bishop's Election

Trinity & St. Phillips Cathedral, Newark, NJ
Saturday, June 6, 1998
9:00 AM until Bishop elected

Plan now to participate in a diocesan wide prayer vigil during the Bishop's election on June 6th. The Newark Cursillo Community is organizing a diocesan-wide effort to hold the delegates and candidates who will participate in this election up in prayer.

Charles Nelson, Newark #23, will co-ordinate the vigil as a member of the Cathedral parish. Charles will be assisted by Diocesan Lay Director, Kurt Gruenberg. You may call Charles at 973-373-4667 or Kurt at 973-361-4163 for more information.

Although the vigil will officially begin at 9:00 AM, the Reverend Petro Sabune, Dean of the Cathedral, will celebrate Holy Eucharist at 6:30 AM at the Cathedral.

More details about directions and parking will follow in the next few weeks. We urge you to contact your rector to open your parish church on June 6th for prayer. Please let us know if your church will be open and we will publish that in future newsletters.
