Covenant of Sustainability

Pledge your church to support the New Jersey Greenhouse Gas Initiative
Become a partner in the New Jersey Sustainability Greenhouse Gas Action Plan. Join in voluntary programs and initiatives to achieve a 3.5% reduction in New Jersey greenhouse gas emissions below 1990 baseline levels by the year 2005. In the process your church will consume less energy.

Your Diocese's Environmental Commission has teamed with Partners for Environmental Quality (PEQ) to enlist your Congregation to sign the Covenant of Sustainability. The faith community, through PEQ, is the third partner, behind industry and higher education, to enter into the Covenant Agreement.  The Covenant is a voluntary, non-binding agreement.  The value of the Covenant is to raise awareness and encourage action around this goal.

Purchasing Green-e electricity is one step congregations can take in helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  There are also actions to be taken in areas of conservation and efficiency.  In all of these areas, PEQ will assist you in meeting your goals, serving as a source of information and referral.
