Green Energy

NJ residents have their choice of electricity provider.
Most people are unaware of the environmental and health consequences of their choice. By choosing electricity from renewable sources, such as wind, solar, captured methane gas or hydro, you truly minimize the ecological imprint. For instance, purchasing electricity generated from renewable sources for one household is the equivalent of not driving close to 12,000 miles in saved air emissions every year. It is no surprise that environmentalists explain that switching your electricity supplier is the single most effective action an individual can take.

Your Diocese's Environmental Commission has teamed with Partners for Environmental Quality to enlist you to switch to green energy. PEQ is working with Green Mountain Energy Company, the only electricity supplier in New Jersey selling Green-E certified electricity. (Distribution, maintenance and billing will continue to be in the hands of your present electric company.) For every congregant that signs up for Green Mountain Energy products, PEQ will donate $20 dollars back to the congregation. (Distribution, maintenance and billing will continue to be in the hands of your present electric company.)

As stewards of the earth, we will send a message through our collective choice that we care about the environment; that we are even willing to pay a little more for cleaner electricity. (Purchasing the green-e certified product will cost the average NJ household about $10-15 dollars more a month, or as one of PEQ's volunteers like to think of it, the cost of a pizza).

By working together, we will help to save people and the planet we inhabit by decreasing air pollution. We will help change the way power is made. We will educate and raise awareness among individuals, families and communities about environmental actions, conservation and renewable electricity sources. And lastly, we will raise money for individual congregations.
