This list must include at least 5 persons (if ordained, must be canonically resident in the Diocese of Newark; if lay, must be deputies to the 2006 Convention of the Diocese of Newark) from at least 5 different congregations of the diocese (which five congregations may not all be in the same district).

This material must be received by Wednesday, July 19 for inclusion in the Presentation Booklet, The Voice and the Search/Nominating Committee Website. The Standing Committee will notify each nominee concerning the specific requirements of such material and where it should be sent. If the material is not received by the required date, the nomination will be deemed to have been withdrawn.

Nominees by petition will also be expected to cooperate in an immediate background search comparable to that done for the nominating committee's candidates.

Names of nominees by petition will be announced only when the required material has been submitted and the background search completed.

The list of clergy and lay deputy sponsors of the nominees will be supplied no later than July 6 to the Secretary of Convention who will certify that those persons are eligible to vote at the electing convention on September 23.

It is the intention of the Standing Committee and the Search/Nominating Committee that nominees by petition will be treated equally with those nominated by the Search/Nominating Committee. Nominees by petition will speak at the various walkabouts, and will also be included in the Presentation Booklet, The Voice and the website. There will be a statement at the close of each biographical statement indicating whether the nominee is by committee or by petition.
