George E. Rath Scholarship Fund
The Rt. Rev. George Rath, seventh Bishop of Newark, set up an Education Fund in order to provide the children of
canonically resident clergy with extra financial assistance for college expenses at accredited four-year education
institutions. The two senior members of The Standing Committee assist the Bishop in determining the awards.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 15 (for 2008)
The application deadline has been changed to simplify the application process. The application must be received
in the Bishop's Office on or before the application deadline. Late applications have an impact on the award
decisions and may adversely affect everyone's award. Please submit applications on time.
APPLICATION FORM: The application is one page and may be downloaded (application
form). You may also obtain a copy from the Office of the Bishop, Ms. Kay Lark, 973-430-9976 or klark@dioceseofnewark.org. (The application form is
in PDF (Portable Document Format) and requires an Adobe PDF reader.)

The application must be complete, it must have original signatures; it may not be a fax or email transmission.
Incomplete applications will be returned and/or may not be considered. Receipt of applications is not acknowledged;
enclose a stamped self-addressed postcard or envelope if acknowledgment is desired.
ELIGIBILITY: Children of canonically resident clergy or of deceased clergy who were canonically resident
at the time of death. The applicant must have been accepted or currently enrolled at an accredited four-year institution
of higher learning.
AWARDS: Award letters and checks are mailed by June 1 directly
to the student. All applicants receive a minimum award and the awards
are based on family income, financial need and available funds.
