    Technology Plan Brainstorming

    Add Your Ideas!

These are the suggestions from the brainstorming sessions held by the Technology Committee on May 11 and May 22, 1999. Read down the list. At the bottom there is an opportunity for you to e-mail your suggestions. Be a part of the solution!

  • Technological help for the illiterate
  • Brand name recommendations -

    scanners
    software
    systems for....

  • On-site survey/recommendations for congregations who ask for help
  • Lobby the national church to be able to get the stuff that we do standardized
  • A room at Episcopal House that has demos of the software that the tech committee recommends
  • User group help phone numbers for folks to call to give some personal help
  • Directory of Church resources for computers, IBM and Mac - publish monthly column in the Voice
  • Parochial Report on line
  • Parish administrator network, get something sponsored for them beyond the monthly meetings - release time for training, on-line communicator
  • Survey to find out which congregations have computers and who is doing it on which machines where
  • Anand center resources - they could have some in the technology area and arrange to distribute it
  • Beginner information in the Voice again - Ken's latest recommendations
  • Distribute a CD with information to congregations, video, music samples
  • CDs can have demo programs on them
  • There ought to be a CD from DFMS with samples and demos
  • There is a difference between communication between laity in general and lay leaders
  • What are other denominations/dioceses doing?
  • Ask congregations to turn in old computers/modems as a trial/loaner until you decide what you want
  • The diocese needs to put funds behind connecting congregations electronically if they are serious!
  • Parochial report on the web - filling out to file
  • all diocesan key forms need to be on the web and available
  • more workshops on...basic computer training
  • more localized evangelism training - how to reach people in a specific local area/special needs/indigenous work
  • very little of the diocesan program makes it down to the local level because the underlying assumptions are not in place - stewardship education, church school,... What is true in a suburban church is not necessarily true in an urban church
  • technology resources available from the Anand Center - CD ROM's
  • Anand Center West or on Wheels or electronically to make materials available
  • How can we do more ministry on-line?
  • Unique parish ministries need to be highlighted and shared with the world-at-large
  • facilitate "shared pulpit" exchanges
  • It is absolutely vital that EVERY congregation be connected by years end so that official correspondence can be sent in a much more timely and certainly efficient way.
  • Every congregation should have a technology committee / personwho will be the contact person.
  • The Diocese should come up with some $$ to enable this to happen - it would be a quite sound investment.
  • (how about a grant from one of our large parishes to make this happen)The Diocesian staff all need official email addresses (About time!)
  • Imagine the possibility of each congregation being able to send notices to all other congregations with the simple push of a button!
