+ Impact on Voice Planning for Next Web Workshop
1. Last fall we were notified that CPG was going out of business. There was not enough lead time to gather the whole committee, so a small group was called upon to meet and conference call, etc. The decision was between 2 vendors, but we were more comfortable with Netsense.net. They had experience with moving a diocese in from CPG already. The choice was influenced by Russ' confidence in the dialog with the vendor. They were willing to find out about mailman for listserv and to look forward to the possibility of future pay-on-line. John was impressed with the fact that they were willing to talk to other dioceses - RI, NY, Newark and someone else are now moved from, CPG to Netsense. The option purchased was a dedicated server, backed up appropriately. We're not sharing! They did all the legwork of getting data from CPG. Support response has been very quick and positive.
2. What's new is a tool that we have acess to - includes training on plesk and mailman. <https://dioceseofnewark.org/plesk-stat/webstat> showed us the data of the hits. We now have easy access to this, which is new. At a web workshop we can make these files available to the webmasters.
3. The price was reasonable...the bill will come for the first time since we went to cpg. The cost is in the tech budget for 2007. Our budget line was cut to $2000, so at some point a $70 bill will be sent to each subdomain for the year.
4. The Voice was cut drastically and will be cut to 2 issues per year. We will be looking for other means of communication. Michael asked that we consider bringing together a group to consider communications - communicators, web masters, newsletter editors...to gather and have a "summit" to discuss ways to deal with this. It needs to happen in the first quarter. John pointed out that we already have Article Manager on the server and these could be set up to collect feed from all over and to then display on parish web sites. Michael says look toward March 3, Christ Church, Pompton, 9 AM-Noon.
5. Workshop needs to happen - topic and content may be determined
6. Convention - John and Jan will supply tech support. |
