Meeting Minutes

February 5, 1997

This meeting was graciously hosted by Louie Crew at his home in Newark. The meeting began with dinner - a feast: Mideastern Stew, Salad, Rolls, and Banana Pudding (with meringue)

Present: Louie Crew, John Rollins, Jan Paxton, David Jones, and Ken Boccino

Agenda:

  1. Evaluation of Annual Convention Presence
  2. Report from Ray Anderson on suggeste priorities
  3. 1997 Budget - $2000 was granted - how shall we use it
    • Separate Web Domain
    • Diocesan Technology Conference
    • Equipment refurbishment and distribution
  4. Based on above, plans and assignments
  5. The "Newark" Quest meeting - how to make it more useful
  6. Diocese of Newark Home Page - help on keeping current
  7. Next meeting date and place

7. Next Meeting: Saturday, March 22, 1997, 9:30 AM. Place to be announced (Martha Lewis will be consulted first about use of ECOS in Secaucus). Mark your calendars!

2. Postponed because Ray was not present. We hope he is ok.

1. Ken and Jan reported that they talked to many people who stopped at our table. John reported that our presentation was well received. Dave said that it got his delegation thinking about what the possibilities might be. We were able to answer many questions and do one or two neat things for folks - Ken found and printed out several pages of youth contacts for Forrest Drennon to use with his Youth Ministry "pen"-pal interests.

Lots of folks stopped and wanted to know how to make a web page.

A resolution was passed to ask the Bishop to create a committee to help the Bishop Annand Center to become more adept at the use of A/V equipment. There is a great potential for computer use/availablity of resources out of that Center, if it can be made available....and that resolution may be referred to us, rather than to a new committee.

For next year we really should work at networking with other groups to see about getting a video projector and helping others prepare neat presentations.

3&4. We were granted $2000 from the Diocesan budget to begin to make a presence felt.

  • $200 set aside toward whatever presentation we make at Convention next year - if we can get several other groups to contribute, we can use the hotel's video projector
  • $200 to host a "Make Your Own Web Site" conference - Dave will contact John Zinn about doing it at the Warden's Conference.
  • John will ask the Bishop to ask the District Chairs (clergy) when he meets with them as to whether this would be a welcome suggestion for their third meeting.
  • Used computers - we need a source and companies are hesitant because of the polution issues
  • **Idea** Ken is going to spec out the cost of Networking the Diocese in a lease arrangement - a standard hardware set-up with protected software package to go in every church...

5. How many folks in the Diocese use Quest? We could find out. Meanwhile, Louie will encourage Sarah Moden Alliston to take a more active role in making the "Newark" meeting have things of interest posted to it.

6. John gets questions and comments from time to time about how out-of-date the Newark Home Page is. He says he has begun asking those folks to help out with their area of concern. If folks want the page to be current, they have to get stuff to John ready to post! (my comment: wouldn't it be neat if instead of Diocesan Council Minutes he could have a link to Minutes of Diocesan Committees? If every committee sent the minutes in ASCII...)

After setting the next meeting and thanking Louie, we adjourned.

Submitted as respectfully as can be managed,
Jan Paxton
