| Agenda:
- Redesign of Website
John went down and met with Michael, Carter, Katie Palmer, Kai Alston, Kitti and some other folks, all of whom felt that the web site needed to be revised. John has done some preliminary re-design - changing the contrast on the menu, moving the search, putting in the Voice In-Between powered by Article Manager. Right now this is available as a draft. Michael has not had a chance to respond. Carter has made some suggestions and John implemented them this morning. Go to http://www.dioceseofnewark.org/index_new.html and e-mail John with your suggestions. John is going to add a site map which will help those who have computer readers (Bethsaida Team, we are listening). There will probably not be all that many changes. The largest one is probably the Voice In-Between.
Russ has been working on lists for webmasters of subdomains so that he can contact everyone at the same time if there is a problem. He is also collecting parish and clergy e-mails so that we can improve the communications.
- Need for a better on-line calendar
John and Russ have each used several on-line calendars. The present calendar is cumbersome. Russ has resolved the sharing of calendars in house with Outlook and that has solved one problem. The next issue is the web calendar for the diocese. Pompton Lakes uses Brown Bear Software ($95 one-time fee). Russ uses a similar one at St. James, Hackettstown. It costs money - from mychurchevents.com. Long Island is using Brown Bear. St. Paul's, Chatham uses Parish Soft - free if you use CMS, otherwise it costs. Russ will have this dialog with Carter and Michael next week and suggest that we look at Brown Bear.
- Request for assistance on an Hispanic Commission web site
The Hispanic commission wants to create a set of pages. Rose Hassan is the intermediary, but doens't have time to do this. The question is does anyone have the time to put this site together? Dennis will give her a call and let us know what's up. He does related things with his job.
- Wireless network for Episcopal House
There is a wireless signal in the area, but this is a golden opportunity to put wireless access into 31 Mulberry. Thought Process: put 1 or 2 wireless routers in and this is a perfect time because there is construction on the 1st and 4th floors to move staff offices and space. There is cable in the walls and ceiling except in the 2nd floor. Russ thinks that all that needs to be done is to get one router and plug it in. The funds could come from the Tech committee budget, since it isn't budgeted anywhere else. The consensus of this committee is that Russ should go ahead and make it happen. One may be sufficient with a repeater. Now, should it be secure? The consenus is to make it secure and give everyone the passwords.
- We had two visitors from Christ Church, Ridgewood, who have just taken over their web site. They have Contribute and Dreamweaver. They're looking for lessons learned.
- Survey of Episcopal Church web site
- There is now a subdomain with Louie Crew as the web master and Vicky McGrath working with him for the Bishop's search.
