September 9, 2002

Present:  Steve Boston, John Rollins, Jan Paxton, Robert Harwood, John Murphy, Johanna Young, Russ Worthington

Next meeting: Tuesday, November 12, 2002, Christ Church, Pompton, 6:30 dinner!

Agenda:

Supper - Thanks to John for Caeser Salad with Chicken! Mmmmmm.

Technology Survey - Michael had the survey completed this summer. The data needs to be compiled for analysis. A volunteer is needed. The goal is to find out the level of technology use in the diocese so that we have a better idea of what we can do and which way to go. Russ will take a stab at making sense of the data.

Article Manager and training for use - This is a software application that allows people who do not have html skills to use an html interface to publish reports, etc to web pages that are linked automatically to an index so that the pages are visible to the public. There are several user levels from "writer" to "administrator" each level with different levels of permissions. John installed it on the server and has everything straightened out. This is the plan because the 10 districts are now interested in being able to publish to the web. John gave a demostration in his office. We had planned to do a training on Oct. 5, Saturday. John would like Steve and Jan to be administrators and the rest of us (some) to be editors for those who need hand holding. Russ is planning to go to as many district meetings as he can and will talk this up and will work on District One. We will begin and plan to do training on Oct. 5. John will send e-mail to president's of districts and invite them to nominate a communication person for that district so that we can issue a password for that district. John will copy Michael and the bishop. The blurb is at www.interactivetools.com for the software. John will send us the url for the diocesan site.

Budget - Steve got the form today. Hearings Saturday, Nov. 9. Requests due by October 25.
We should continue to offer the workshops - continuing need, increasing skill.
Continue software purchase - educational discount requires a page of stationary from a school. Johanna will try to help Steve with that.
Larger server space - would IDT house a box for us? John likes them - we've never been down, its a unix server, we've never been hacked...Rob was being charged $485 to watch over a box. John suggests that Steve ask IDT what they would charge for setting up and collocating for us. John will inquire about Faith and Value. We'll circulate the info by e-mail.
