Convention Corner: The new Youth Convo coming this November

Convention Corner

A big change is coming to the Convention for youth this November! The introduction of technology to our voting system has caused a reduced amount of work for the youth volunteers. As a result, the opportunity to create a new program called Youth Convo has become a reality. This exciting new program created by the Youth Commission in partnership with Cross Roads, will be the place to be for youth in grades 9-12 across the diocese.

This unique experience will welcome the youth to the Diocese’s 150th Convention in a new way. As in years past youth will arrive the night before Convention begins, but instead of being asked to work they will have time for food, fun, and fellowship. As members of the Youth Convo, they will sit in on the general meeting and have youth-only information sessions with key people in the diocese, in addition to attending workshops and hearings. Of course, we can’t forget being guests at the Friday night dinner and youth gathering that will follow. All this wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the amazing team of Cross Roads staff and Youth Commission members.

So, when is this all happening you ask? God works in mysterious ways for sure as this year’s Diocesan Convention lines up perfectly with the public schools being closed for teachers' convention. That’s right – the Youth Convo will start on Thursday, November 7th and run through Saturday, November 9th. What better way to spend your November break then with fellow youth from across our diocese. We ask everyone to share this exciting opportunity with youth and their families so they can save the date!

Finally, how will we find out about signing up? The Youth Commission will release registration information soon. For more information, please contact the Youth Commission Co-Chairs Ms. Janelle Grant at Janelle.grant89@gmail.com or the Rev. Asa David Coulson at acoulson@gracenutley.org.
